WJP Vineyard
Walter J Pratt Pty Ltd purchased the vineyard in 1998. At the time the vineyard was actually operating as a goldfish hatchery and growout facility with 60,000 goldfish.
We wanted to trial a particular biomedia and decided this trial should be conducted on our own stock. After the initial purchase of this "extensive" aquaculture facility we built several "intensive systems" that incorporated the new biomedia. Upon completion of the trial the company decided to transpose the property to being a fully operation vineyard. With the assitance of a viticulture consulting firm we completely revamped the property and planted some 12000 vines. The property has been developed utilising environmental sustainability and these initiatives include Solar hot water, biodiesel production, composting and bore water salt chlorination of the swimming pool. Every effort is made to minimise the use of chemicals within the vineyard.
With the vines now reaching full maturity we are making very good quality wine that is marketed under the label " Panthers Paw". The Panthers Paw label comprises Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Chardonnay.
The Panthers Paw wine is made by 2 local winemakers and is available at our cellar door located at Berry Cafe on the Melba Highway Dixons Creek.
The wine is available on line at: www.pantherspaw.com.au
We only enter our wine once per year into wine shows and were fortunate enough to pick up the "Best Wine of the show at the latest Dixon Creek Wine Show".
We have picked an excellent crop in early 2008 (The best so far in quality and quantity) and these wines will be available by Christmas 2008.
